Hi, I’m Emma Korosei, a Studio Art major at Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota, originally from Anchorage, Alaska.
Statement
Most of my work is based in observation from my immediate surroundings. I draw living things such as plants, people, and animals, as well as landscapes. For me, art is a way of recording, noticing, and appreciating what I see around me, and reacting to different subjects in the way I represent them through dry and wet media.
When I draw or paint from my surroundings, I am able to pause and appreciate minute details of ordinary or strange objects, scenes, or circumstances. This is important because of how difficult it can be to break away from our busy lives and screens to notice our surroundings, and our role within them. Even when we can break away, there is a pressure to record anything of the slightest interest with photos.
